The 19th season of Golf Channel’s Big Break premiered last week and, boy, was it a great start! After 7 years and 10 seasons of working on the set of Big Break, About Face Design Team’s Kari and Gina know a lot about how the show works! This season, Big Break was shot in Riviera Maya, Mexico, (deleted semicolon – refer to http://grammar.quickanddirtytips.com/semicolons.aspx) just one of the exotic locations that Big Break has sent AFDT to over the last 7 years. Competitors (and of course our lucky gals Kari and Gina) stayed at the stunning IBEROSTAR Grand Hotel Paraiso and competed on the lush Playa Paraiso Golf Club. We look forward to hearing all the details of the filming of Big Break when our stylists get back each year; this year definitely didn’t disappoint! Here’s what Kari had to say about their whirlwind Big Break Mexico experience!
“Grand Hotel Paraiso was one of the most beautiful and fun-filled resorts. The weather was perfect the entire time we were there. Warm during the day and cool in the evenings. The ocean view was spectacular and the beach was gorgeous! The resort is all inclusive so we got to eat anywhere on the resort we wanted to for any meal and the food was great. From fresh tropical fruits to surf and turf, casual dining in your bathing suit to a suit and tie. We didn’t even have to bring our wallets (except to tip, of course, and the service was impeccable).
The rooms we stayed in were very large with a huge bathroom and 2 sinks, large Jacuzzi tub, shower, king-sdize bed, fully stocked mini bar and fridge, sleeper couch, desk, living room and balcony overlooking a courtyard. Very spectacular! Just to think – we are getting paid to work in such luxury! But, shh , don’t tell anyone! We are so very fortunate to do the type of work that we do.
This Big Break was different than many others, in that we made special connections with many of the contestants. Seeing the “inside scoop” by being behind the scenes gave us a perspective unlike any other. Gina and I saw first hand what makes these people tick and it is not just golf. I think I can speak for both Gina and myself that we observed what it means to be an overcomer. We saw what it takes to be determined and to be focused, steadfast, as well as committed. It was great to see that at any age, from the youngest at 22 to the oldest at 41, these contestants were dedicated to being achievers at both golf and in life. Very amazing to know what it is that makes them who they are and what gives them endurance, as well as motivation, to keep going despite the odds, both personally and professionally. Even though all 12 contestants (6 guys and 6 girls) were in a competition, the camaraderie was great from the very beginning and there was no way to predict who would walk away the winner of Big Break Mexico. In the end, you will be surprised – so make sure to tune in each week!” -Kari
We are excited to see these impressive athletes compete, struggle, and overcome throughout this season. Watch every Monday at 9pm EST to stay up to date on Big Break Mexico, and of course, admire the lovely handiwork in the hair and makeup department by Kari and Gina. Also, keep an eye out on our Facebook page as well as our blog for more insider information from Kari and Gina as the season progresses.
